studio etiquette

CREATE YOUR SPACE FOR PRACTICE

The front, short end of your mat will face Hansen Avenue (the street you entered from) and the back of your mat will face Snow King Mountain unless otherwise instructed by the teacher.

SILENCE ELECTRONIC DEVICES

Please silence your cell phone within the studio. In rare exceptions where you must bring your phone into class, please ensure it is set to silent with no vibration and please do not use it in the studio.

PLEASE OBSERVE SILENCE IN STUDIO SPACE

For some, the yoga room is the only quiet time they have in their day. You are welcome to gather and talk in the lobby sitting area for as long as you would like, before or after class, during business hours.

CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF & RETURN PROPS NEATLY

The studio is a space for you and your practice, as well as for others in our community. Please be considerate, cleaning up your space in a neat fashion (sometimes this means leaving props better than they were found).

If you rent a mat, please wipe it after practice with the spray provided. This is located on the prop wall.

ARRIVE AT THE STUDIO BEFORE CLASS

Please allow time to sign in and set up your practice space. Entering class late or arriving at the time the class starts is disruptive and disrespectful to other student's experience and schedules. If you arrive late, please wait until class has begun (i.e. after opening/centering/chanting). Life happens– if you are late, please enter quietly. We ask that you practice patience and compassion to a student who might arrive late and allow them mat space as needed.

CHECK IN A THE FRONT DESK WHEN YOU ARRIVE

If you have signed up online, you simply have to click "Check-In" on the iPad. If you are a member at the studio, you can enter your name to note that you have arrived to sign in. If you are a new student or in need of purchasing a new class or membership, we can assist you at the desk.

PLEASE HONOR THE LENGTH OF CLASS & SAVASANA

We believe savasana is a post of integration, allowing your body to process the beauty and experience that asana created. Please stay for the full length of class. Your teacher will guide you out of savasana and close the class.

IF YOU HAVE AN INJURY(IES), ILLNESS, OR MEDICAL CONDITION

Please let your teacher know before class. This includes if you are mama-to-be.

NOTE YOUR PREFERENCE FOR HANDS-ON ADJUSTMENTS

If you do not care fo hands-on assists, please place a black river stone at the front of your mat.

LEAVE VALUABLE BELONGINGS AT HOME

Akasha Yoga is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Found items will be held for 30 days and before being donated.

PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS AS YOU DESIRE

Our teachers are here for you. Please speak with us before class, after class, or reach out over the web. Please refrain from talking in class unless you have a question about what is being taught or have pain in a pose.

PRACTICE WITH CARE & COMPASSION

Please honor your practice and assume responsibility for your body. Modify postures and use the assistance of props. If you are ever unsure of a shape or a feeling, please reach out to your teacher (before or after class if you are not comfortable doing so during class). Yoga invites us to explore certain levels of discomfort but the invitation is not for pain. Please move out of a pose if pain occurs. Listen to your body and do not push your edge. Be present and breathe.

Be compassionate with yourself on this journey of exploring the body, opening the muscles, and releasing present or past tension. Honor yourself for showing up.
